Hi folks, after writing last time about the emotional impact of Hutchmoot UK 2026 on me, I want to share the talk that I gave on science fiction, fandom and bridge-building. Scroll down for that, but first something exciting happening this evening…
Tonight at 8pm: Of Man’s First Disobedience L’Abri Lecture on Zoom
Is wisdom ever innocent, and innocence ever wise? Is rebellion a necessary part of growing up? How have some of our culture’s best children’s fiction engaged with these themes, in the long shadow of Milton and Genesis?
Tonight at 8pm UK time I’ll be giving the Friday night lecture at English L’Abri Fellowship, on childhood, maturity and the Fall in C S Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia and Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials”. The password is “Lecture”.
Science Fiction and Myth
How does science fiction, from popular franchises like Star Wars and Doctor Who, to critical hits like Dune and Everything Everywhere All At Once, reveal our culture's longings for spiritual significance? What are the similarities between faith and fandom? How might these stories be bridges for opening up conversation around life's big questions?
This talk was recorded 9th May 2026 at Hutchmoot UK, a festival of arts, creativity and faith.
