I think there are other potential candidates for 'ultimate meaning' or a foundation for it (evolved human nature, some quasi-Platonic eternal values, and so on). But I'd say they are in meaningful senses less "ultimate" and don't account as fully for all aspects of how we often experience reality as seemingly meaningful. What would you have wanted to focus in on?

Looking back, a question that's become seemingly important, and that could have been significant between you two, I reckon is the question of Story Vs Theory. To what extent is the narrative structure, within which one is located, as opposed to the theoretical structure, within which one is located, an important difference? (Badly articulated but hopefully we'll enough.)
